Japanese Bizen model of a ShiShi, or Lion Dog, dating Meiji period.

For sale this finely modelled Bizen ShiShi, or Lion Dog, its head and front haunches slightly turned and lower than its rear, in an almost playful expression. Very well carved with excellent detail to its complete muscular body. Most attractive and very tactile in this brown pottery and glaze. Front paw with slight professional restoration, only noticeable from the underside. Quite uncommon as a Bizen example. Size approx. 16cm tall by 17.5cm long and 10cm wide. A splendid example.
