For sale this fine large Japanese Arita blue and white dish, circa 1670. Painted in deep inky blue tones with a central pattern of two birds within a floral and pomegranate scene, the everted rim further painted with panels of floral and garden scenes. Some slight glaze wear and standard glaze crazing, common with this type of ware, to the everted rim and the reverse. The dish is 36.4cm diameter and 6.4cm deep, there is one very small shallow reverse rim chip restored and is without any further damage. A dish of almost same size is illustrated page 51, plate 27 Japanese Export Porcelain, Ashmolean Museum, Oxford by Oliver Impey, but with a central VOC symbol replacing the main bird. Price£875.00
