WWI Ingersoll "Wrist" Trench Watch c.1915 – Original First World War Military Wristwatch

Original WWI Ingersoll "Wrist" Trench Watch Circa 1915

An authentic World War One Ingersoll "Wrist" trench watch, dating to circa 1915, representing one of the earliest generations of military wristwatches produced during the First World War. Manufactured by Robert H. Ingersoll & Bro., this highly collectable timepiece marks the important transition from traditional pocket watches to purpose-built wristwatches that would define twentieth-century watchmaking.

Introduced during the early years of WWI, the Ingersoll "Wrist" retains several fascinating pocket watch characteristics, including its 12 o'clock crown position, manual-wind pin-pallet lever movement, and classic enamel-style military dial, reflecting its origins as an adapted pocket watch movement. These early trench watches were designed to provide soldiers with immediate access to the time during combat, where synchronised troop movements, artillery barrages and military operations depended upon accurate timekeeping.

Today, original examples have become increasingly sought after by collectors of WWI militaria, antique military watches, vintage wristwatches, and early horology.

Condition

This original example displays genuine age-related wear accumulated over more than 100 years, including an attractive period patina, honest case wear and evidence of long-term use that adds significantly to its authenticity and historical appeal. The watch remains an untouched survivor from one of history's most important periods of military and watchmaking development.

The watch is currently running, demonstrating the durability for which early Ingersoll watches became well known. As with all vintage mechanical watches of this age, no guarantee is offered regarding long-term accuracy or reliability without professional servicing.

It is fitted with what appears to be its original leather strap, further enhancing its originality and collector value.
